Seven People, Including a Child, Discovered Dead in a Mexican Abandoned Car

In the state of Veracruz, Mexican authorities on Friday discovered seven bodies—two women’s and a minor’s—in an abandoned automobile.

The victims, discovered in the town of Acultzingo, had several gunshot wounds, according to the state prosecutor’s office.

Violence between opposing criminal groups battling over the rewards of gasoline theft from national oil corporation PEMEX has long plagued Acultzingo.

The gangs also commit robberies on the highways.

Known for its coffee and vanilla, the Gulf coast state of Veracruz serves as a transit point for drug traffickers heading into the United States.

Ten beheaded victims were discovered in two cars after a similar murder that occurred recently in Tuxpan, another city in Veracruz.

Out of more over 100,000 disappearances countrywide, Veracruz has had around 7,000 since 1962.
