US may put further sanctions on Iran after its assault on Israel

According to White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the US will soon implement more sanctions on organizations that support Iran’s Defense Ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as new penalties on Iran’s drone and missile programs. In a statement, Sullivan said, “Following Iran’s unprecedented air attack against Israel, President Biden is coordinating with allies and partners, including the G7, and with bipartisan leaders in Congress, on a comprehensive response.”

“In the coming days, the United States will impose new sanctions targeting Iran, including its missile and drone programs, as well as new sanctions against entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry,” he said. According to Jake Sullivan, the US anticipates penalties on Iran from its partners and friends as well. He said that in order to further undermine Iran’s missile and unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities, the US is still working to fortify and broaden the effective integration of air and missile defense and early warning systems across the Middle East.

“We anticipate that our partners and allies will soon be following with their own sanctions,” Sullivan said. Furthermore, in order to further undermine Iran’s missile and unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities, we keep working through the Department of Defense and U.S. Central Command to enhance and broaden the effective integration of air and missile defense and early warning systems throughout the Middle East.”

He pointed out that in addition to the additional sanctions, there would be a “steady drumbeat of pressure” to control and weaken Iran’s military might and effectiveness as well as to address all of its harmful actions. He reminded everyone that the United States has sanctioned over 600 people and organizations linked to terrorism in the last three years, on top of penalties pertaining to drones and missiles.

According to Jake Sullivan, “the United States has sanctioned over 600 individuals and entities connected to terrorism, terrorist financing and other forms of illicit trade, horrific human rights abuses, and support for proxy terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Kataib Hezbollah, over the last three years in addition to sanctions related to missiles and drones.” There will be more pressure.

“We will not hesitate to continue to take action, in coordination with allies and partners around the world, and with Congress, to hold the Iranian government accountable for its malicious and destabilising actions,” he said. The national security team met with US President Joe Biden on April 14 to discuss Iran’s assaults against Israel. Biden described the team’s commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies as “ironclad.”

Following Saturday’s Iranian drone attacks on Israel, Biden convened a meeting with his national security staff. “I just met with my national security team for an update on Iran’s attacks against Israel,” Biden said in a post on X. We are steadfastly committed to protecting Israel from dangers posed by Iran and its allies.” Iran fired several drones and missiles at Israel earlier on Saturday, according to The Times of Israel, in response for what it said was an Israeli airstrike on its embassy in Syria, which killed three of Iran’s most senior generals.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said on Sunday morning that air defenses intercepted 99 percent of the approximately 300 missiles that Iran launched at Israel throughout the course of the night. “The Iranian threat met the aerial and technological superiority of the IDF, combined with a strong fighting coalition, which together intercepted the vast majority of the threats,” Hagari said.

Furthermore, Hagari said that 120 ballistic missiles were launched by Iran against Israel. “As you can see for yourself, the base is operational and will keep carrying out its duties. The runway at Nevatim is visible in the photo,” he said, showcasing real-time video from the airbase. The White House National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, praised Israeli soldiers on Sunday for successfully intercepting Iranian drones and missiles, calling it a “incredible military achievement.”

During his appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Kirby said that Israel’s operation is an exceptional display of military might. According to him, the deed demonstrates Israel’s friendships. He declared that the US would keep assisting Israel in defending itself.

“Where things stand this morning is just an incredible military achievement by Israel and quite frankly the United States and other partners that helped Israel defend itself against more than three hundred drones and missiles,” Kirby said in response to a question concerning the Israel Defence Forces’ (IDF) claim that 99 percent of the missiles and drones were intercepted by Israeli and US forces. Simply said, Israel’s display of military might to the whole world Friday night was astounding.”

Furthermore, Israel has shown, in my opinion, that it is not alone and that it has allies. that on the global scene, it is not alone. What will happen now, if and how the Israelis react? They will have the last say on it. We acknowledge and value that. However, the President has made it quite plain that we do not want to go to war with Iran. Here, escalation is not what we’re after. We’ll keep supporting Israel’s self-defense efforts,” he said.
