In India, civil examinations are difficult to pass, but perseverance always pays off in the end. Many candidates take the UPSC test every year, but tragically, only few of them succeed in passing it. But as was previously said, if you work hard enough, you will eventually get what is rightfully yours. This is a similar tale of Uma Harathi, who persevered and became an honorable IAS officer after five tries.

Uma Harathi, an engineering graduate from IIT Hyderabad, comes from the Nalgonda area of Telangana. Even after five tries in the challenging UPSC test, she showed her strength by passing the 2022 exam with an All India Rank (AIR) of 3. Uma gives hopefuls sage advice in light of her challenging journey: “It’s good to fail. I made a lot of mistakes. Simply express your pride in yourself.”

Uma’s father, the Superintendent of Police in Narayanpet, urged her to get into government service. She remarked, “He kept telling me what a great platform it is – both as a career and a platform where I can do something meaningful.” in reference to her father.

There is a history of law enforcement in her family. She understands the value of the platform as a means of advancing her career and having a big social effect. Uma, who has a BTech in civil engineering, emphasizes the need of tenacity and learning from mistakes based on her challenging but beneficial experience.

In an interview with NDTV, the 28-year-old expressed her gratitude to her family and friends for their support. Uma underlined how the experience was transforming, stating, “This was my fifth effort. This was not a simple procedure, and it took a long time. But the voyage was wonderful. I realized who I was and gained insight from my blunders.”

She gave the other candidates advice, adding, “Master the procedure and comprehend the test. Acknowledge the plan, your mistakes, obstacles, successes, and disappointments. Just take responsibility for everything, and you’ll be prepared to face the world even if you fail the test.”
