The Music Academy releases its prizes

At its meeting on March 17, the Music Academy Madras Executive Committee agreed to present its Annual Awards to the following artists in various categories.

The musician TM Krishna, who has extensively experimented with the art’s format and is renowned for both his strong voice and his devotion to tradition, will receive the Sangita Kalanidhi award.

Professor Parassala Ravi (V Raveendran Nair), who has written books on mridangam and organized curricula for teaching the art, will receive Sangita Kala Acharya. This honor will also go to Geetha Raja, who is actively engaged in teaching advanced and devotional music.

The Melattur Bhagavata Mela tradition’s music repositories, the Thiruvaiyyaru Brothers (S Narasimhan and S Venkatesan), will receive the TTK Award. The TTK Award will also go to HK Narasimhamurthy, who has served as an organizer, mentor, and performance pianist.

Dr. Margaret Bastin, who has a strong interest in academic research and has worked in a variety of educational settings as a resource, will receive the Musicologist Award.

Along with those chosen for the Sangita Kala Acharya, TTK, and Musicologist awards at the Sadas on January 1, 2025, the Sangita Kalanidhi awardee will preside over the academic sessions of the 98th Annual Conference and Concerts of The Music Academy to be held between December 15, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

Top Mohiniyattam performer and exponent Neena Prasad will get the Nritya Kalanidhi award. On January 3, 2025, during The Music Academy’s 18th Annual Dance Festival, she will accept the honor.
