2 arrested for stealing scholarships

Two young people have been taken into custody by the authorities in relation to a fraudulent scheme they ran under the pretense of giving poor people government scholarships.

The suspects, Narender and Sonu, who were originally from Rajasthan’s Deeg region but are now residents of the area, have been recognized. It has come to light that Narender is an undergraduate student in his last year, whereas Sonu is a Class XII graduate. Following information from the Union Government’s web site “Pratibimb,” which was established to track instances of online fraud and cybercrime, the police made the arrests.

According to a police source, a resident of Jaipur recently informed Inspector Amit Kumar, who oversees this area’s site, about the cheating event involving two residents of Faridabad.

The victim told the police that the offender had stolen Rs 20,000 from her by pretending to release a Rs 1.3 lakh scholarship from the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment. Under the guise of ministry representatives, the accused asked the victim to pay money so that her paperwork could be processed. But as soon as they received the money, they switched off their phones, exposing the alleged fraud.

According to a police department spokeswoman, the suspects, who were taken into custody from a residence in Krishna Colony on Saturday night, have admitted to being involved in at least six separate incidents that were carried out in Rajasthan over the previous year. The spokeswoman said that the two will shortly be turned over to the Rajasthani police.
