2020 Riots: Tahir’s request for bail denied

New Delhi: Tahir Hussain, a former AAP councillor implicated in a bigger plot that is said to have been the cause of the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, had his routine bail request denied by a judge here on Saturday, stating that the charges against him were “prima facie true.” The court noted the evidence presented before it and further noted that Hussain was accused of providing funding for the disturbances as well as taking part in other acts that led to the unrest.

The Unlawful Activities Prevention Act’s strict guidelines would not apply to him, as the court said it was premature to determine that the accusations against him did not constitute terrorist acts. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai said, “The court concludes that there are reasonable grounds for believing that the accusations (against Hussain) are prima facie true after hearing the public prosecutor and after reading the final report.” pti
