An Indian man is accused of not properly disposing of a simulated IED in Singapore during a simulation exercise

According to a media source, a 46-year-old security guard of Indian descent has been accused of lying to a public worker on the proper disposal of a fictitious IED that was used in a drill that went wrong and created a panic in the neighborhood.

According to The Straits Times newspaper, on January 5, Durendran Vicknesh Venkatraman was assigned to dispose of an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been used in a security agency simulation exercise at Singapore’s Sing Industrial Complex in Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park.

But he didn’t, and when the IED was eventually discovered abandoned in a public area, both the public and the authorities were alarmed.

Before it was determined that the item was a false IED, the authorities were compelled by the circumstances to use police resources and prevent at least 100 individuals from accessing the premises, according to the report.

According to the article, a senior police officer said, “He was supposed to dispose of the fake IED after he received a call from the exercise team.”

Additionally, after being away for more than five hours, Venkatraman lied to the authorities when they sought to contact him about the issue. He claimed to have disposed of it.

The case of Venkatraman has been postponed till April 30. A person found guilty of providing false information to a public worker faces a maximum six-month prison sentence and a fine of up to $5,000 Singaporean dollars.

A person found guilty of fabricating an account faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a fine.
