Days after the terrorist attack, Rajnath Singh is in J&K to review the security situation

Days after terrorists ambushed Army vehicles in Poonch, killing four troops, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh came to Jammu today for a security review visit. Mr Singh arrived in Jammu and shortly after went for Rajouri.

The visit by the minister of defense occurs when an officer at the rank of brigadier is under investigation for persistent shortcomings in Army operations that have resulted in the deaths of many troops. Additionally, it coincides with anger in Jammu and Kashmir over the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch area who were taken into custody by the Army to be questioned.

Mr. Singh will probably run across locals and the relatives of the fallen victims. He is scheduled to preside over a high-level security meeting at Raj Bhavan in Jammu at about 3 p.m.

Jammu has seen an increase in security in preparation for the arrival of the defense minister. Manoj Pande, the chief of staff of the Army, had earlier visited the Union Territory to assess the situation.
