Enforcement Directorate Offices Throughout India To Receive CISF Shield Amid A Wave Of Attacks

New Delhi: The Central Industrial Protection Force (CISF) will provide protection to Enforcement Directorate (ED) offices across India. In the midst of incidents of assaults on the federal agency’s teams and impediments to its searches and investigations, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) authorized the deployment of CISF officers to ED offices.

Currently, the investigation agency does operations in 40 cities from 21 zonal and 18 sub-zonal offices. Its Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road offices in Delhi are already covered by the CISF.

The ED offices in Kolkata, Ranchi, Raipur, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kochi, and Mumbai would be the first to get the CISF deployment. For the time being, the Center will cover the costs associated with deploying CISF to ED offices. CISF will assign personnel to certain offices based on the needs and threat assessment.

The only central paramilitary force that is often stationed outside of enterprises is the CISF. Its offices range from large corporations to airports and urban areas. In addition, a large number of VVIPs have CISF covers.

Currently, in a number of states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, etc., troops from central paramilitary forces, such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and CISF, accompany ED and even the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams during raids. Additionally, in a number of states and Union territories where the BJP has control, the local police accompany ED personnel.

In the presence of CRPF jawans, ED officers were beaten up in January in the Sarberia neighborhood of Sandeshkhali by residents and supporters of local TMC leader Sheikh Shajahan. The officials had to flee for their lives during searches at eighteen locations, including Sarberia, in relation to the ration fraud.
