First train of Delhi-Meerut RRTS service is flagged off by the PM

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the 17-km priority segment of the nation’s first RRTS corridor and rode in a “Namo Bharat” train that was traveling along it.

The RRTS was officially launched in India when Modi waved the green flag to the train that ran between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot stations. The train has a maximum speed of 180 km/h,

The prime minister was also seen chatting with the train’s personnel and passengers.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor was officially opened at Sahibabad station. When fully operational, this corridor would cut the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to little under an hour.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Hardeep Singh Puri, the minister for urban affairs of the Union, both attended the event.

Beginning on October 21, travelers will be able to board India’s first semi-high-speed regional rail service, which will operate with trains outfitted with cutting-edge technologies and a variety of customer comforts.

According to National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) authorities, the services would start at 6 am and go until 11 pm.

There are five stations along the priority route between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. It is an offshoot from the main corridor that runs from Duhai to Duhai Depot.

The NCRTC is constructing the RRTS corridor, a joint venture between the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, for the semi-high-speed regional train service.

The first RRTS in India, between Delhi and Meerut, is being built under the direction of the NCRTC.

By June 2025, the complete 82.15-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is expected to be in service.
