Five people were detained in connection with the Madurai railway carriage fire case

Nine pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh who were traveling to Rameswaram perished in the Madurai railway carriage fire. Five persons, including tour operators and a chef, were detained in connection with the incident.

Government Railway Police detained Sathyaprakash, Narendra, Kardish Sakhani, Deepak, and Sukum Kashyap.

They have been charged with violating Sections 164 of the Indian Railway Act (IR) and Sections 302, 304, and 285 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

They will reportedly be presented before the Madurai Chief Judicial Magistrate court.

Notably, on Saturday morning, a tourist coach on the Lucknow-Rameswaram express that was stabled at Madurai’s outer yard caught fire, killing nine people and seriously hurting dozens more.

An illegally placed gas cylinder that exploded in the bus as the chef was attempting to prepare tea was determined to be the fire’s origin.

In the bus, there were 55 passengers and 8 staff members, and the fire accident claimed the lives of 9 individuals. The corpses of the victims were so badly burned that neither the railway nor the local police were able to recognize them.

Since many of the pilgrims were abroad when the accident occurred, authorities were unable to identify the dead and missing.
