‘In Control Of Situation’: SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav Responds to Swami Prasad Maurya’s “Anti-Hindu” Remark

It seems that the Samajwadi Party’s plan to court the Brahmin community for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has come to an impasse. The head of the Samajwadi Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, has once again courted controversy with a divisive remark on the Hindu faith. Prior to its removal from X (previously Twitter), Maurya called Hinduism a fraud in a video. Prior to it, he attacked several Ramcharitmanas passages, claiming they were “insulting to society on the basis of caste.” He insisted that the verses be outlawed.

It was expected that Swami Maurya’s recent remarks would be a hot topic of conversation during the Sunday Maha Brahmin Samaj Panchayat, which was convened at the party’s state headquarters. The leaders and delegates of the Maha Brahmin Samaj, whom party chairman Akhilesh Yadav met with, expressed disapproval of Swami Prasad Maurya’s statements on behalf of the Prabuddha Sabha and the Prabuddha Samaj of Kannauj. They further requested that Akhilesh Yadav take the necessary actions to prevent such remarks from being made in the future.

Leaders blamed Swami Maurya’s derogatory remarks on Hinduism for the Samajwadi Party’s poor showing in the 2022 assembly elections. According to reports, the leader of the SP listened to everyone and said that the party will not make any statements on caste or religion. Akhilesh pledged to keep everything under control.

Akhilesh Yadav made it very clear during the Brahmin conference that caste and religion should not be discussed, according to SP spokesman Fakhrul Hasan. According to the spokesman, the Samajwadi Party never engages in caste- or religion-based politics.

In the meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has been challenged by the Bharatiya Janata Party due to alleged “anti-Hindu” remarks. According to BJP spokesman Manish Shukla, Swami Prasad Maurya is following the party chief’s directions when he makes these remarks.

In the meanwhile, Swamy Prasad Maurya declared at the Bahujan Samaj Rights Conference held at Jantar Mantar on Monday that Hinduism is not a religion but rather a farce and a source of profit for others, barely one day after Akhilesh had promised to take control of the situation. In response to Maurya’s statement, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife and member of parliament Dimple Yadav said that her party disagrees with him.
