In the Lok Sabha elections, Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference will stand alone

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, said on Thursday that his party will run separately for every seat in the next Lok Sabha elections. “As far as seat sharing is concerned, NC will contest alone and there’s no doubt about it,” NC leader Farooq Abdullah said during a news conference. Coincidentally, the news was made a few days after the ED had called Farooq Abdullah to discuss an alleged cricket fraud.

“I think that elections in both states will be held with the parliamentary elections,” Abdullah said when questioned about the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, who served three terms as chief minister, was a devoted follower of the INDIA bloc and attended all opposition alliance meetings on a regular basis.

But last month, Abdullah expressed worries about the lack of agreement on seat-sharing agreements inside the India group. Abdullah stressed the need of coming to a decision quickly in an interview with senior lawyer Kapil Sibal on Sibal’s YouTube channel, saying, “To protect the nation, we must set aside our disagreements and prioritize the country’s welfare.”

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh responded to Farooq Abdullah’s claim that the National Conference would run unopposed in the polls by saying, “Talks are ongoing.” Each side is limited in their own way. The PDP and National Conference are and have always been members of the INDIA bloc.

Since the AAP and Trinamool Congress have already shown a shaky commitment to the alliance, this is yet another setback for the INDIA group. While Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee indicated that the TMC’s seat-sharing negotiations with the Congress were not progressing well, the AAP declared that it will not form an alliance with the Congress in Punjab.
