J-K: Former military members and locals gather to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas

In conjunction with the Indian Army, ex-servicemen and residents of Battal in the Sunderbani sector of Udhampur, Jammu, and Kashmir celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas at a nearby public school.

On this occasion, a special showing of Kargil War film clips was organized, and many veterans and locals, including kids, attended. Sky lanterns and tri-color balloons were lit as the festivities came to a close to commemorate the historic triumph against Pakistani aggression. On the fringes of the gathering, a number of villagers proudly recalled the tense atmosphere during the war, when the majority of them had to leave their homes and send their families to Jammu and Akhnoor while many others stayed behind to assist the Army units stationed in the sector as porters for ferrying ammunition and ration supplies.

Every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to honor the courage and gallantry of the Kargil war heroes who led Operation Vijay, which resulted in the victory of the Indian Armed Forces.
