Jaipur Mayor was suspended after ACB discovered her husband accepting bribes
The mayor of Jaipur, whose spouse was detained yesterday for allegedly accepting bribes, has been suspended by the government of Rajasthan.
Munesh Gurjar, the mayor of the Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation, was placed on administrative leave after the state’s anti-corruption bureau detained her husband Sushil Gurjar for reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh in return for approving a property lease.
“Gurjar has also been suspended from her civic body seat—Ward Number 43 in Jaipur’s heritage corporation,” according to NDTV.
According to the article, “it appears that the mayor was involved and could influence the investigation in the case” since the mayor’s husband was captured collecting the bribe at the house of the mayor while she was there and because Rs 40 lakh in cash was found there.
Along with Sushil Gurjar, two other people have been detained by Rajasthan ACB, who will interview them over the course of two days.
It said that further inquiries are being conducted and that a complaint has been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to a police complaint, Sushil Gurjar demanded Rs 2 lakh from the complainant via his agents Narayan Singh and Anil Dubey in order to speed up the clearance of a lease application for a site.
On the basis of the allegation, authorities set a trap and made the arrests, it was said.
Over Rs 40 lakh in cash was found by authorities after searching Sushil Gurjar’s house. Cash worth more than Rs 8 lakh was found in Narayan Singh’s house. To count the bills, a counting machine from the bank was brought in, it said.
This humiliation for the Congress follows the Red Diary controversy, which saw the grand old party struggling against the odds during an election year, according to the statement.
According to the BJP, the Congress is a government of theft and jhooth (lies), and the chief minister has bandages on his eyes rather than his feet.
