Lajpat Nagar citizens are upset by the switching of two MPs

Constructed to accommodate immigrants from Pakistan during the partition, Lajpat Nagar is now not just a posh neighborhood in the city’s southern region but also the location of Central Market, one of the biggest clothing marketplaces.

Amar Colony, Dayanand Colony, Double Storey, National Park, and Vikram Vihar are among the colonies that call it home. Most of the inhabitants work in industries where Punjabis, Khatris, and Sindhis predominate.

Furthermore, Lajpat Nagar is one such neighborhood that has two MPs since it is split between the East and New Delhi seats. Residents bemoan the fact that their complaints are constantly bouncing between MPs as a result of their split constituency, and they often go unanswered.

Even though the market and residential area are together, residents in the same ward must approach separate MPs for shared concerns because of the asymmetrical borders, according to Kuldeep Kumar, a resident of Lajpat Nagar and business owner.

“A portion of our region is in East Delhi, while the remainder is in New Delhi. In actuality, many blocks are split up into several constituencies in Lajpat 1 & 2. This uneven divide causes us to deal with a number of problems. If road renovation is required, we will need to contact two separate Members of Parliament since the same route crosses two seats, he stated.

“People must go to East Delhi MP for market-related concerns and New Delhi for residential issues, even though 90% of the area’s merchants dwell there. However, the locals are typical,” he said. The locals want the region to be reorganized into New Delhi, ideally into a single constituency.

“To begin with, the MP won’t have much time to address our concerns since east Delhi is a large region. Second, the demographics and socioeconomic class are consistent with New Delhi neighborhoods, according to Raghav Bhutani, a Lajpat Nagar I inhabitant.

Lalit Vohra, the secretary of the local RWA, enumerated additional problems the community faces, chief among them being haphazard parking and an encroaching security danger.

Here, parking is a big problem. It causes pollution, traffic jams, and congestion. As a result, the local AQI continues to be poor,” he said.Rupees worth of crores were gathered for parking amenities as part of the Delhi 2021 Master Plan. Regarding this, there’s no specific policy in place. There ought to be a workable answer, Vohra said. Raising concerns about security, he said, “We have seen ragpickers doing small-time crimes such as stealing AC cables and other items on several occasions. Police do not intervene because they are minors,” he said.

“At each gate, more than 50 vendors have established their shops, narrowing roads,” he stated in reference to encroachment.

“Issues not resolved”
