Lok Sabha Elections 2024: CPI Receives Income Tax Notice for Rs. 11-Crore Owes Following Congress

Delhi, New: Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the income-tax department has sent a notice to the Communist Party of India (CPI) requesting that it pay “dues” of Rs 11 crore. This is a startling move. According to a story published by news agency PTI, the taxpayer received an IT notification for submitting tax returns over the previous several years with an outdated PAN card. According to the article, the left-wing party is examining legal options in order to contest the IT notice.

According to the report, the party’s “dues” to the I-T department include fines and interest owed to the authorities for “discrepancies” in the party’s use of an outdated PAN card.

An official from the CPI said to the news agency PTI, “We are consulting our lawyers and seeking legal assistance.” The Congress had earlier said that it has received I-T notifications for payment of almost Rs 1,823 crore for errors in tax filings from prior years.

Party treasurer Ajay Maken claimed that the BJP is seriously breaking income-tax laws during a press conference held at the AICC headquarters here with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. He stated that the I-T department ought to demand more than Rs 4,600 crore from the saffron party for these infractions.

The leader of the Trinamool Congress, Saket Gokhale, has further said that he has been sent eleven I-T notifications in the last forty-eight hours. In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has been accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre of attempting to “cripple” the opposition.

Congress says it got new I-T notifications totaling more than Rs 1,800 crore.
In an attempt to financially devastate the opposition party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the governing BJP is allegedly engaging in “tax terrorism,” according to the Congress, which announced on Friday that it has received more letters from the income-tax department demanding payment of Rs 1,823.08 crore.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is accused by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh of collecting Rs 8,200 crore via the “electoral bonds scam” and using “pre-paid, post-paid, post-raid bribes and shell companies.” However, he said that the BJP was involved in “tax terrorism.”

The Congress is being targeted financially, but Ramesh said, “We will not be intimidated.” He said that the Congress would keep up its campaign for the next legislative elections and that the nation’s citizens would get its promises.
