Maharashtra reported 50 new cases and 9 JN.1 infections amid the COVID-19 rise

According to a daily bulletin published by the health department, Maharashtra recorded 50 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of illnesses since the novel coronavirus first started to spread to 81,72,135 over three years ago.

Nine of the additional cases were linked to JN.1, bringing the total number of infections in the state associated with the new sub-variant to 10, according to the report.

Five of the JN.1 patients are from Thane city, two are from Pune city, and one each is from a rural area in the districts of Sindhudurg, Akola, and Pune. The alert said that one patient had traveled to the US from Pune. It said that every JN.1 sufferer had recovered.

Despite its fast-spreading nature, the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the new strain as a distinct “variant of interest” and said that it presents a “low” danger to global public health.

Although the number of cases is increasing and the JN.1 sub-variant has been found in the nation, authorities had previously said that there is no need for urgent alarm since 92% of infected individuals choose to get treatment at home, suggesting a minor disease.

Doctors advise persons with colds, coughs, or fevers to stay away from other people, wear masks, wash their hands with soap, or use hand sanitizer.

8,75,65,093 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in Maharashtra so far, and 81,72,135 of the results were positive. The statement also said that up to 80,23,418 patients had been released so far.

Updated data released by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday shows that the number of COVID-19 infections throughout the nation climbed by 656 in a single day, bringing the total number of active cases to 3,742.

After a consistent drop in coronavirus infections, hospitalizations, and fatalities, as well as high levels of community immunity to SARS-CoV2, the World Health Organization (WHO) determined in May that COVID-19 was no longer a public health emergency of worldwide concern.
