Malerkotla: A district-level committee would monitor social media during the election

In areas of this district that fall under the Sangrur and Fatehgarh Sahib LS constituencies, the District Election Officer-turned-Deputy Commissioner Pallavi claimed to have finished proactive and thorough arrangements for keeping a close watch on paid news, social media, and other publicity materials that could be exploited by candidates and their supporters.

Teams of federal employees from many agencies, including knowledgeable social media specialists, will rigorously work around the clock to monitor and evaluate the contents of various news articles and advertisements that the candidates and their supporters sometimes post.

Amargarh ARO Gurmit Bansal, ARO Aparna MB, APRO Deepak Kapur, Election Tehsildar Brij Mohan, Assistant Commissioner Harbans Singh, ADC (G) Rajpal Singh, and convener Manpreet Singh have been advised to keep an eye on the effectiveness and progress of the Media Certification and Media Monitoring Cell (MCMC), which was established at the District Election Office at the administration block in Malerkotla.

Declaring his satisfaction with the way the cell was operating, DC Pallavi stated that sufficient and reliable measures had been put in place to guarantee compliance with the guidelines and directives provided by the Election Commission concerning the granting of certificates and authorization for the use of paid news and advertising in mass media for election campaigns.

“We have apprised every member of the Media Certification and Monitoring Cell regarding the contents of different sections and subsections of the comprehensive guidelines on the topic, and we will guarantee that the Media Certification and Monitoring Cell additionally functions as a vital center for distributing important data and updates concerning the Lok Sabha election to the press and relevant contenders,” stated DC Pallavi, the ex-officio head of the committee.

The DC said that in response to concerns about widespread sponsored news during the subsequent vote, the ECI had mandated media scrutiny. The district-level committee was recently assembled in accordance with the Election Commission’s recommendations, and it has since begun to operate and disseminate information about the adherence to the criteria by all candidates and their supporters.
