Manipur: The mother of the woman who was paraded naked calls for the accused to be put to death

The mother of a lady who was stripped nude and paraded across Manipur has called for the perpetrators to be put to death.

Additionally, she has asked to view the remains of both her son and her late husband.

She claimed she did not trust the state administration after meeting a team of opposition MPs when they were in conflict-torn Manipur.

She said to PTI, “I trust the central government but not the state government.”

In Manipur, two tribal women were seen in a video being paraded nude and being touched earlier this month. The event happened on May 4, one day after Meitei and tribal tribes in the state started engaging in ethnic conflict. Over 150 people have been murdered and hundreds have been displaced since the outbreak of unrest on May 3. Attacks have been made on homes, places of worship, governmental structures, and political institutions.

On Saturday, a group of 21 MPs from the INDIA alliance of the opposition arrived in Manipur for a two-day tour. They met the victims’ relatives and went to relief camps. The mother of the 21-year-old victim of the incident on May 4 stated in a statement after the delegation met with her that tribals cannot coexist with the Meitei population.

“The thing I want to convey is that we the tribals, the minority, we can’t live with the Meitei anymore,” the woman told PTI. “Second, if possible, I want to at least see the dead bodies of my son and husband.”

The mother of one of the victims pleaded with TMC MP Sushmita Dev and DMK MP Kanimozhi to at least enable her view the remains of her son and husband, according to PTI.

Dev told PTI, “Her husband and son were slaughtered by the crowd in front of Manipur Police, and her daughter was raped. However, to this day, not a single police official has been punished. They had a major shock. They claim there was an angry crowd of over a thousand individuals who made a particular demand, which I will bring up with the governor.

Dev also said that while the lady claimed to have been raped in front of the police, nothing was done to assist her.

Dev said that the girl now fears the cops.

When a victim loses faith in the police, according to Dev, a constitutional crisis has occurred.

The victim’s father, according to Kanimozhi, fought in the Indian Army and defended the country but was unable to protect his family.

“Seeing a mom whose daughter was raped is quite upsetting. She lost her kid and husband on the same day, and she claimed that justice had not been served.

National indignation followed the May 4 event, which was brought to light when the video went viral earlier this month. The Manipur crisis has received more attention as a result of the film, which was released a day before the start of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session. Since there have been so many adjournments amid tense exchanges in the houses, the session has been mostly wasted so far. The Opposition has requested a debate on Manipur in the Parliament and has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a comment on the matter. The opposition has persisted to its demand for a response from Modi, who they have criticized for being mute on the subject, despite the center saying it is ready for a dialogue and that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would reply to the debate. Modi didn’t make his first public remarks on the Manipur issue until after the widespread outcry over the tragedy on May 4.
The Central Bureau of probe (CBI) has taken up the probe into the event on May 4. The CBI is now handling the matter. Additionally, the Supreme Court has been requested by the Centre to move the trial from Manipur. Within six months of the CBI submitting the charge sheet, the Center requests that the trial be over.

Seven people have been charged in relation to the event on May 4 so far, and the recording device has been found.
