More than half of Shiv Sena’s Rs 152.4cr came from housing company BG Shirke

MUMBAI: With more than half of the Rs. 152.4 crore that Shiv Sena got between April 2019 and January 2024, Pune-based BG Shirke Construction Technology Pvt. Ltd. has emerged as the party’s largest EB contributor.

According to the most recent information available on EC’s website, the majority of the company’s gifts were made in the last two years after the Sena split.

The corporation, a major participant in the property market, purchased bonds worth Rs 118.5 crore in 2023–2024, of which Rs 85 crore were contributed to the Shiv Sena and Rs 30 crore to the BJP. At this point, CM Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena was in charge of the account.
A government contract worth Rs 4,652 crore was awarded to BG Shirke Construction Technologies last year to construct 20,448 apartments in the state under the PMAY programme.
The state awarded a housing contract to Sena’s largest poll bond contributor last year.
Qwik Supply Chain was one of the major donors to the Shiv Sena, having bought Rs 25 crore worth of party bonds in January 2022.
With a contribution of Rs 85 crore in bonds, BG Shirke Construction Technology Pvt. Ltd. was the largest donor. It was awarded a Rs 4,652 crore contract last year to construct 20,448 apartments in the state as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Shortly after BG Shirke Construction bought the bonds, the party cashed the majority of them. For example, the corporation gave Rs 25 crore worth of bonds to the party on January 10, 2024. On January 15, 2024, a few days later, Sena cashed the bonds.
After giving Rs 1 crore to AAP and Rs 50 lakh to the BJP in May 2019, the corporation refrained from buying any bonds for three years, until the end of 2022. The remaining bonds were acquired by the corporation in 2023–2024.
Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs 3 crore), Ultra Tech Cement (Rs 3 crore), CenturyTextiles (Rs 1 crore), Jindal Poly Films (Rs 0.5 crore), PRL Developers (Rs 5 crore), Dinesh Chandra R. Agrawal Infracon (Rs 3 crore), Genext Hardware Parks (Rs 3 crore), and Sula Vineyards (Rs 0.3 crore) are a few more companies that bought electoral bonds and donated them to the Sena.
The following developers made contributions to Sena’s fund: Vamona Developers (Rs 0.3 crore), Keystone Realtors (Rs 1.3 crore), and K Raheja Corporation (Rs 1 crore).
Some of the people who had first given Rs 1,000 went on to buy many additional bonds in various amounts.
Since the program’s launch, Sena has collected a total of Rs 227 crore via electoral bonds.
Under Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership, the party was split in 2018 and up to April 2019, at which time bonds totaling over Rs 70 crore were contributed.
