Near Samrala, two SUVs hit head-on, killing ACP and his gunman

Sandeep Singh, 35, the assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Ludhiana (East), and his gunman, Paramjot Singh, 35, died in the head-on collision of their SUV with a Mahindra Scorpio on the flyover at Dayalpura near Samrala on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway on Friday night. The driver also suffered serious injuries.

Farmers had blocked one side of the four-lane highway at the scene of the accident in protest against the construction of a biogas plant.

Following the impact, the SUV belonging to the ACP crashed into the barrier and caught fire. Bystanders transported the wounded to the Samrala Civil Hospital. According to Dr. Manpreet Kaur, the ACP and his gunner were “brought dead.”. Gurpreet Singh, the driver head constable, is critically ill and has been transferred to a Ludhiana hospital.

The incident happened at roughly 12.30 am as the ACP was traveling from Chandigarh to Ludhiana, according to Samrala DSP Tarlochan Singh.

The DSP said that the Scorpio’s passengers had left by the time police arrived at the scene. “The Scorpio has been impounded and efforts are underway to trace them,” he said.

A complaint has been filed against the unidentified Mahindra Scorpio driver.

Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal refuted allegations that the wounded officers were burned beyond recognition, stating that the ACP’s SUV burst into flames shortly after the injured were removed from it.

“Police parties are undertaking searches to apprehend the culprit after we have identified the driver of the Scorpio. According to reports, the car was being driven by someone else but apparently belonged to a guy in Amritsar,” he said.

According to sources, the collision also wounded two occupants of the Scorpio, and the police were reportedly searching hospitals for information.

Sandeep Singh, a 2016 PPS officer, was a resident of Bathinda with his wife and children in Chandigarh. Sandeep was assigned to Bathinda before to being moved to Ludhiana. In 2019, he also held the position of ACP (Traffic) in Ludhiana. Ferozepur native Gunman Paramjot Singh is survived by his wife and kid, age three.
