Odisha Health Secretary: The state of diarrhea is steady

On Wednesday, a high-level committee led by HN Shalini Pandit and G Mathi Vathanan, secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), examined the diarrhea situation in Rourkela.

Following conversations with a range of stakeholders, including top officials from public and commercial institutions, the health secretary said that the outbreak situation had stabilized and that a resolution was expected to occur within a few days. According to her, food safety inspections, awareness campaigns, and improved water quality are to blame for the decline in the number of new cases. Patients are currently coming at hospitals with minimal symptoms, and in a few hours, they will be going home in a stable state.

According to Pandit, appropriate epidemiological and microbiological research is being carried out in order to identify the source of illness and stop future occurrences, as instances have been recorded from various places. The Sundargarh Government Medical College and Hospital (MCH) community medicine department has already begun its investigation. Soon, teams from the Regional Medical Research Center and SCB MCH in Cuttack will make their way to Rourkela.

She said that starting on Wednesday, all ten of Rourkela’s urban primary health centers (UPHCs) will be open 24/7. The Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and the UPHCs have received enough physicians and paramedics to handle the crisis.

The HUD secretary visited the eight MLD and 55 MLD WATCO water treatment facilities in Panposh that day. He went to the Hamirpur slum and had talks with Jal Sathis. He went over the steps to ensure that there is clean drinking water available.

Sundargarh collector Parag Harshad Gavali, WATCO CEO PK Swain, commissioner of the Rourkela Municipal Corporation, and ADM Subhankar Mohapatra accompanied Mathi Vathanan.
