“Once vibrant Mumbai…,” leaders of Team Uddhav criticize Shinde for killing Ghosalkar

The leaders of the Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction have called for the Eknath Shinde administration in Maharashtra to be dismissed due to the state of law and order after the assassination of Abhishek Ghosalkar, the party’s leader.

The leaders also brought up an earlier incident from last week, in which a BJP MLA shot a representative of the Shinde faction inside a police station.

Following the murder, a fierce political conflict has broken out in the state. Nonetheless, the state administration insists that a thorough investigation will be carried out to determine the whole reason and plot behind the event.

Sanjay Raut, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), said that the state’s law and order situation had become worse and he called for the resignation of Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister, who is in charge of the home ministry. “The failure of (state) Home Minister Fadnavis is reflected in these [twin attacks].” We are being forced to accept this regime by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah,” the Rajya Sabha member said.

Another Shiv Sena (UBT) member, MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, emailed Union Home Minister Amit Shah pleading for his immediate assistance. She mentioned the fire inside a police station and the Thursday murder of Ghosalkar, saying that the “once-vibrant city of Mumbai, renowned for trade and commerce, is now marred by escalating crime, violence and gunfire.” “The rampant use of firearms to intimidate innocent civilians and public representatives has plunged the state into a perpetual state of fear and insecurity,” she said.

The bodyguard of’social activist’ Mauris Noronha, who shot and killed Ghosalkar on Thursday during a ‘Facebook Live,’ has been taken into custody by the Mumbai Police. The Shiv Sena leader was killed by Noronha using the licensed pistol of the bodyguard. Just seconds after shooting Ghosalkar, Noronha committed suicide.

Prior to her arrest in this rape case, Noronha was charged with a crime and imprisoned for about five months. He felt that Ghosalkar was trying to frame him for the crime. The police also claimed that Ghosalkar, a former corporator, and Noronha, who likewise had political ambitions, were engaged in a struggle.

A local Shiv Sena politician headed by Eknath Shinde was shot and injured on February 2 by BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad at a police station in Ulhasnagar, close to Thane, over a property dispute and political rivalry.
