Resigning from office symbolizes the suffering of Congressmen, not switching to a new party: Arvinder Singh Beautiful

NEW DELHI: Shortly after declaring his intention to step down as the head of the Congress’s Delhi branch, Arvinder Singh Lovely said on Sunday that he was only leaving his position and would not be joining another political organization.

Following Asif Mohammad Khan’s assertion that the BJP will field Lovely in the East Delhi seat in lieu of Harsh Malhotra, the former Congress MLA clarified his position.

Lovely told reporters at a news conference held at his home, “I have only resigned as Delhi Congress chief, and I am not joining any political party.”

Lovely said that the grief felt by Congress employees upon realizing that the “ideals they had been fighting for during the last seven to eight years” were in danger of collapsing was reflected in his departure. Lovely referred to the party’s alliance with the AAP in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections. “We are fighting the elections together, but never did Congress workers say that we are giving a clean chit to them or giving them credit for building schools and hospitals, which is far from the reality,” Lovely added.

It is untrue for those claiming that I quit because I was upset about how the tickets were distributed. As you are all aware, three days ago, I had a news conference to present the contestants,” Lovely said.

AAP official Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned whether the BJP was switching their East Delhi candidate earlier in the day in a Hindi post on X, without identifying anybody. When asked whether Bharadwaj’s tweet suggested that he would join the BJP, Lovely said, “Thanks for Bharadwaj’s wishes.” He seems to make choices on behalf of everyone else, in my opinion. I only wanted to make it clear that I resigned from my position as president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.”

Meanwhile, Lovely was visited at his home by a number of Congress officials, including former MP Sandeep Dikshit, former minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Naseeb Singh, Neeraj Basoya, Surender Sharma, and Laxman Rawat. Congressman sources said that Lovely’s comments and the trips were also a sign of his power. “Clearly, there are two Congress factions in the Delhi unit right now, one preferred by the high command and the other by Lovely,” according to a source.

Dikshit said that Lovely “has personal pain… His pain is that we are struggling to bring back our old reputation in Delhi” in her capacity as president of the state unit and a Congress employee.

“It’s a crown of thorns,” he continued. Still, he put in a lot of effort over the last six to eight months to build the party. It was sensed by everybody that Congress is gradually waking up.”

But according to party official Abhishek Dutt, “I read Lovely’s letter, and it is truly disappointing to see that a senior member who got everything from Congress is quitting 20 days before the elections. This demonstrates that he rejected the party’s structure. Although he said in his letter that he opposed the partnership, why was he requesting tickets?
