Sandeshkhali case: Bengal police, ED, and CBI are allowed to detain Shajahan Sheikh, according to the HC

NEW DELHI: The Calcutta high court ruled on Wednesday that Shahjahan Sheikh, the primary suspect in the disturbance in Sandeshkhali, is free to be arrested by federal authorities like as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Sheikh, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) politician, has been missing for more than 50 days when a crowd thought to be his followers assaulted an ED team.

About 100 kilometers from Kolkata and close to the Sundarbans, Sandeshkhali has been the scene of demonstrations for more than a month due to claims of sexual harassment and land grabbing by Sheikh. People in the area have been calling for his arrest.
In the meanwhile, a number of villagers who had protested about land snatching are starting to get their land back from the Bengali government.
