Senthil Balaji, a minister in Tamil Nadu, has had his remand extended by the Chennai Sessions Court in a case involving money laundering

The detained Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji’s detention in judicial custody was prolonged by a city sessions court on Wednesday till August 8, 2023. Senthil Balaji was brought in through video conference from the Puzhal Prison here, and Principal Sessions Judge S Alli prolonged his detention.

Balaji was taken into jail by the court on June 14 after being detained by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering investigation.

Subsequently, his detention to judicial custody was increased thrice. The last day of his legal custody was July 26, 2023. He was thus presented to the PSJ.

When he was the Transport Minister of the previous AIADMK government, he was detained by the ED in a cash-for-jobs fraud.

Balaji is now a Minister without a portfolio despite formerly managing the ministries of Excise, Prohibition, and Electricity during the present DMK administration.
