Shimla hears cries of solidarity after an AAP demonstration

Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) undertook a one-day collective fast today in protest of Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the party and the chief minister of Delhi, who was recently arrested.

The state president of the AAP, Surjeet Singh Thakur, said that Arvind Kejriwal was the leader of the whole nation and denounced the manner in which their leaders were being detained.

He said that the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was employing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or intimidating opposition leaders to get them to join the BJP.

He went on, “This is the murder of the Constitution as well as the murder of democracy.”

The state president said that while the corrupt were allowed to roam, those who were offering quality healthcare and education were being imprisoned. He claimed that no BJP leader has yet been the target of a case.

He said that the BJP turned to vengeance politics and began detaining AAP leaders when they chose to oppose the BJP administration and refused to become party members.

Thakur said, “As of right now, not a single penny has been recovered from any of the party leaders, and no information about the PM Cares Fund is being shared.”

He went on, “The AAP will keep fighting to defend the Constitution for the people of this country and stands firm against the BJP’s tactic to keep the Opposition leaders away from contesting the upcoming elections.”
