Telangana receives a yellow warning from IMD due to a heatwave on April 17–18

Days after Telangana had pre-monsoon rains, the state’s temperature reached beyond 44°C on Monday once again.

In all 33 of the state’s districts, the highest temperature reached 40°C. A heatwave is expected to occur across the state on April 17 and 18, according to the IMD’s yellow advisory. From April 19 forward, mild rain and thundershowers are predicted to follow the warmth.

Low-level south-easterly winds were observed across the state by the IMD, predicting that the following five days would bring more hot and dry weather.

The Telangana State Development and Planning Society reports that Nizamabad recorded 43.3°C, Mulugu and Nalgonda at 43.8°C, and Bhadradri Kothagudem at 44.5°C had the greatest maximum temperature. Hyderabad has high maximum temperatures as well; 41.4°C was recorded at Shaikpet, the highest.

Due to the high heat, the TSRTC’s Greater Hyderabad Zone would reduce bus services from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Corporation will start running buses at 5 a.m., and its nighttime services will run from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
