The administration of Nandankanan was maintaining the ropeway

On Wednesday, the administration of Nandankanan Zoological Park said that there had been no problems with the ropeway and that it was now undergoing standard maintenance.

N Sanath Kumar, deputy director of the zoo, refuted reports that the recently inaugurated project experienced a breakdown that resulted in a two-day service suspension. He said that the ropeway was undergoing various safety assessments, such as non-destructive testing, load testing, and trials, as part of the users’ safety requirements. The company in charge of the service had scheduled the testing for Monday. But he noted that repair required an extra day, which is why tourists couldn’t use the ropeway on Tuesday.

According to Kumar, there was a load test during which the ropeway cabins were moved to various heights, and someone snapped pictures of the trolley cars and circulated rumors of a collapse. At the return station on the Botanical Garden side, the counter weight and tension trolley were adjusted to test the system from lowest to maximum load. According to Kumar, at this time, ropeway cabins came into contact with the water to assess the system’s maximum sag.

After a 12-year break, the ropeway project in Nandankanan was reopened in November of last year.
