The Delhi Excise Department wants to change the requirement that two alcohol bottles be carried on metro trains

Within a month of the DMRC deciding to let passengers to bring two sealed liquor bottles on board Delhi Metro trains, the city government’s Excise department reported the leniency and requested that it be modified since it was illegal.

A senior Excise department official said that only one sealed bottle of alcoholic beverages such rum, vodka, and whiskey may be transported from one state to another in accordance with the Excise Act.

The Metro trains transport people between Delhi and NCR towns like as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, and the officer stated that permitting two sealed bottles to be transported by any individual would be against the Act.

Additionally, in Delhi, alcohol cannot be sold to anybody under the age of 25, although in areas like Gurugram, it may be sold to anyone above the age of 18. The official said that because of the relaxation, anybody underage may carry alcohol into Delhi from distant locations aboard Metro trains and drink it there.

The officer explained that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been given notice to change the standard of carrying two bottles of alcohol to one so that commuters who bring bottles on Metro trains connecting Delhi to cities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana do not violate the Excise Act.

According to a DMRC statement, the security organization in charge of handling the commodities for the Corporation decides what is acceptable for transport on the Delhi Metro.

In regards to carrying alcohol during cross-border travel, passengers are obliged to abide by the state excise department’s current norms and regulations, according to the DMRC.

However, it went on to say that the security agency will be informed of the excise department’s “concern” and instructed to investigate appropriately.

Last month, the DMRC approved the transport of two sealed bottles of alcohol per traveller on Delhi Metro trains. Alcohol was formerly prohibited on the Delhi Metro, with the exception of the Airport Express Line.

A committee made up of representatives from the DMRC and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of maintaining security at Metro stations, suggested the two-bottle limit.
