The government of Andhra Pradesh extends the Sankranti break for schools, giving students two more days off

The Andhra Pradesh Sankranti school vacations in 2024 would be extended for students by two days, as declared by the state government. The Commissioner of School Education said on Wednesday that January 19 and 20 would henceforth be observed as the Sankranti break. The reopening of schools is scheduled on January 22, 2024. Times Now claims that the Commissioner of School Education made this decision by order, considering the feedback from educators and parents.

In the past, Andhra Pradesh schools had a 10-day holiday from January 9 to January 18 in observance of Sankranti. The state of Telangana also had a vacation from January 12–17. Intermediate school closures occurred on January 12 and reopened on January 17. The dates of the TS Inter final examinations are set for February 29 through March 19.

In order to make up for the lengthier vacations, the Education Department has sent out notice to all District Education Officers in the State, instructing them to plan make-up classes for these two additional days during the next General vacations in the Academic Year 2023–2024. Headmasters of all types of schools, including aided, private, public, and ZPP/MPP, are instructed to abide by these guidelines.

The opening of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22 has also sparked rumors that academic institutions would get an additional day off. But as of yet, no official announcement on this potential holiday has been made. It’s important to remember that Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have already announced breaks for educational institutions in advance of the inauguration.

Due to the cold, all schools in Noida and Greater Noida have announced a change in schedule for lessons from preschool to grade 8. According to this statement, classes today, January 18, will start at 10 am in all schools, from nursery to eighth grade. Rahul Panwar, the Basic Education Officer for Gautam Buddh Nagar, said that this schedule would remain in effect until further instructions from the district government are received.
