The Khammam Lok Sabha candidate conundrum persists for the Cong

The Khammam district Congress party is struggling to make the vital choice of who to field for the next Lok Sabha elections. Factionalism within the party has increased the fight for the nomination of their different leaders in the race for the Khammam Lok Sabha seat.

Supporters of P Prasad Reddy, the brother of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Mallu Nandini, the wife of the Deputy Chief Minister, have been aggressively campaigning on social media, claiming that their leaders are the legitimate candidates for the ticket. But the party’s choice is still up in the air despite these assertions and efforts.

Prasad Reddy and Nandini, two possible candidates, have been traveling the area a lot over the last few weeks, visiting Khammam and Kothagudem to meet with party leaders and supporters. Their actions are similar to those of a current election campaign, even though there hasn’t been an official statement on the distribution of tickets.

Within the Congress party, there is fierce rivalry over the seven parts that make up the Khammam Lok Sabha seat. In the last Assembly elections, Congress won six seats; however, the CPI helped obtain one seat. Party officials were encouraged by this record and thought it would be simple to capture the MP seat in Khammam.

Four vacant seats in the state were announced by the Congress on Wednesday, but sources within the party claim that there is still fierce fighting for the Khammam seat.

In the meanwhile, leaders of the minority have been pushing for the Khammam MP seat to be allocated in order to meet their quota. They have particularly asked that Mohammed Javeed, the president of the City Congress, be given consideration for the ticket by the party high leadership.

Minority officials believe that Javeed is a strong candidate who can win this seat for the party because of his support during the Assembly elections, especially from the more than a lakh minority voters in the Khammam Parliament.

Other political parties, such as the BJP and BRS, are also actively planning in the interim, concentrating on the Velama and Kamma groups, respectively.

The BJP leadership has declared Tandra Vinod Rao, a political novice and member of the Velama caste, as its candidate for the Khammam Lok Sabha constituency.

Nevertheless, the BRS has selected Nama Nageswara Rao, a well-known Kamma and incumbent MP, as their candidate for the same seat.
