The lieutenant governor writes Kejriwal to inquire about the budget’s delay

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Saturday that with the completion of existing power projects with a total capacity of 6,000 MW, the Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir is poised to emerge as north India’s primary “power hub”.

In his Udhampur parliamentary seat, the 120 MW Seva-II hydropower project is situated near Bani in Kathua district, on the Himachal-J&K border. The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office paid a visit to the project.

Examining the hydropower project status with NHPC, Director (Finance) R P Goyal, and other officials, the minister said that since Narendra Modi became prime minister in 2014, at least seven significant hydropower projects had been completed in the area in a short amount of time.

Speaking about the current power projects in Kishtwar, he said that Pakal Dul, with its 1,000 MW capacity, is the biggest project and is anticipated to be finished by 2025 at an estimated expense of more than Rs 8,000 crore.

The 624 MW Kiru Hydroelectric Project is another significant undertaking. According to him, the project is expected to cost Rs 4,285.59 crore and be completed by 2025.

According to the Minister, the 850 MW Ratle project has been brought back to life as a joint venture between the Union Territory of J&K and the center. Furthermore, the Dulhasti II hydroelectric project will have a capacity of 260 MW, while the current Dulhasti power plant has an installed capacity of 390 MW.

According to him, these projects would not only improve J&K’s power supply situation and make up for its current shortfall, but the significant financial outlay for their development will also benefit the local population.

“Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir is poised to become a major power hub in north India, producing approximately 6,000 MW of power upon the completion of ongoing power projects,” said Singh.
