The Story Of Kodanda Rama Temple in The Whispers Of The Ramayana

Remember to visit one more stunning temple in Karnataka that is devoted to Lord Ram on this momentous day of this great event.

While the country waits for the big temple in Ayodhya to open, let’s look at another beautiful temple in Karnataka that is dedicated to Lord Ram.

The Sri Kodanda Rama temple is located next to Chunchanakatte Falls, 55 kilometers away from Mysuru.

According to legend, Lord Rama and Goddess Sita visited this location, which lies on the banks of the Kaveri River, much like the tribal pair Chuncha and Chunchi, during their “agnyaathavaasa” (time of exile).

According to legend, when Goddess Sita declared her desire to have a bath here, a heavenly moment occurred even though there wasn’t a single drop of water there. She asked Lord Ram to make a river, and he gave it to his loyal brother Lakshman.

Then, Lakshman shot an arrow at a rock, and, miraculously, water spurted forth in three different colors: one resembled the golden glow of turmeric, another was like rich, nourishing oil, and the third had the earthy tones of’shikakai,’ a herb used traditionally in Indian hair washing. Vibrant remnants of these three colors may still be seen today close to the revered shrine, attesting to this occurrence.

This location is special because, with the exception of the inner sanctuary of the temple, one can hear the sound of the waterfalls everywhere. On the other hand, the waterfall next to Chunchanakatte Temple is in full flow and drops from a height of around 20 meters.

One interesting feature of this temple is that Goddess Sita is positioned on the right side of Lord Rama, instead of the traditional left, as is customary. Goddess Sita was instructed by Trinabindu Maharshi to position herself to the right of Lord Ram.

This location combines spiritual tranquility with breathtaking natural beauty, making the temple a special and important stop for both pilgrims and devotees.
