Today, PM Modi and his colleague from Mauritius will jointly launch community development initiatives on the island country

NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his colleague from Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, will open six community development projects at Agalega Island in Mauritius, including a new airstrip and St. James Jetty.
At 1:00 pm, the two leaders will launch these initiatives via video conference, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to the PMO announcement, the launch of these initiatives is evidence of the strong and long-standing development cooperation between India and Mauritius. Initiatives will improve Agalega’s connection to Mauritius’ mainland and bolster marine security.
“The inauguration of these projects is a testimony to the robust and decades-long development partnership between India and Mauritius,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
“The projects will fulfil the demand for better connectivity between mainland Mauritius and Agalega, strengthen maritime security and foster socio-economic development,” it said.
According to the press release, the inauguration of these initiatives is noteworthy since it follows the February 12 introduction of the RuPay Card and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services in Mauritius by Prime Minister Modi and his colleague Jugnauth.

During the introduction, Prime Minister Modi said that new duties for unifying partners with India are being implemented via India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
“For three friendly nations in the Indian Ocean area, this is a momentous day. We are using current digital methods to link our historical ties now. “This demonstrates our dedication to the advancement of our populace,” Prime Minister Modi said at a virtual event today to introduce UPI services in Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
According to him, cross-border contacts as well as cross-border transactions would be reinforced by Fintech connectivity.

Fintech connectivity is expected to enhance not just cross-border transactions but also cross-border relationships. According to PM Modi, “Uniting Partners with India is the new responsibility that India’s Unified Payments Interface, or UPI, is performing.”
The ceremony that marked the introduction of India’s UPI services in the two island nations was attended by Prime Minister Praveen Jugnauth of Mauritius and President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka.

The prime minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, said that the relationship between India and Mauritius has taken on new significance with the introduction of digital payment connection.
“It is a great pleasure to be here with all of you on this historic occasion,” he added. The domestic card in Mauritius will be the Rupay card, which is co-branded with our national payment switch, the MoCAS. India and Mauritius have deep cultural, economic, and interpersonal ties that stretch back many centuries. We are adding even another level to our friendship today.”
