Two terrorists were killed in a gunfight with army soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir after attempting to cross the Line of Control near Poonch

An attempt to infiltrate over the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir was thwarted on Wednesday, and two terrorists were killed in a heavy battle with army forces, according to a defense spokesperson.

According to Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, although the corpse of one terrorist and some warlike supplies have been found, a search operation for the body of the second terrorist is still under way.

He said that two terrorists were seen crossing the Line of Control on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in the Mandi sub-sector of Poonch, prompting the beginning of the operation.

The Indian Army and police quickly began a coordinated effort to stop the terrorists. The PRO said that both terrorists were killed on Wednesday. “The terrorists used the hostile terrain, dense jungle, and steep gradient to bring down a heavy volume of fire on the troops,” the PRO stated.

According to officials, just after midnight, the terrorists were seen advancing near the border fence in the Sawjian neighborhood of Mandi while hiding in the shadows.

When the military faced the infiltrating terrorists, a heated gunbattle between the two sides broke out, according to the authorities, who added that there were no casualties among the security personnel.

A hard-core terrorist was shot and killed by security forces in the isolated Gali Sohab hamlet in the Tuli region of the Reasi district only two days prior to the confrontation near the LoC.

Another terrorist, however, had been able to flee. On Wednesday, the third day of a huge search effort designed to find him began.

This year, there have been multiple engagements in the border region between Poonch and Rajouri that have resulted in the deaths of around 22 militants and 10 security officers.

According to the government, the majority of the terrorists were killed while trying to cross the border into this side.
