Uttarakhand: A car near Nainital crashes down a gorge, killing eight people, including seven Nepalese laborers

On Monday night in Betalghat, Nainital, Uttarakhand, a car plunged down a gorge, killing at least eight passengers and injuring three more.

“Three people were seriously injured and eight people died on the spot when the pickup vehicle fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge,” said Anish Ahmed, the incharge of the Betalghat police station.

He said that Rajendra Kumar, the driver of the car, was an Indian and that seven of the deceased were citizens of Nepal.

The Betalghat police station sent officers to the scene as soon as they learned about the occurrence. With the aid of the nearby locals, they started a search and rescue mission.

The eight victims’ remains were removed from the ditch after the rescue. The cops have the whole area under search and seizure.

Ten laborers from Mallagaon in Unchakot were heading towards Haldwani late at night after wrapping up their shift. Eight individuals instantly perished when their car lost control and plunged into a ditch that was more than 200 feet deep at this time, the official said.
