12 lakh rupees fined to Pant for sluggish overrate

Captain of the Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant, was fined Rs 12 lakh for keeping a sluggish over rate in an IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings.

Here on Sunday, Delhi Capitals defeated CSK, the reigning champions, by a score of easily 20 runs.

“Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their IPL match against Chennai Super Kings,” a statement from the IPL said.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” said the statement.

The Capitals were given a rousing start by openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, but Pant supplied the last burst to establish a formidable mark with a gallant fifty.

Then, the DC bowlers, particularly the pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar, upset the CSK batting, and even with the returning Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s brilliant 37 off 16 balls, the reigning champions lost for the first time this season.

The Delhi Capitals’ victory on Sunday was their first of the year.
