Australia announces roster adjustments for the 2023 Ashes: Officially ruled out is Nathan Lyon, while Matt Renshaw is released

For the current five-match Ashes 2023 series in England, the Australian men’s cricket team has made a few changes to their Test roster. A serious “calf tear” has officially caused veteran offspinner Nathan Lyon to be sidelined for the rest of the tour.

On the second day of the second Test, Lyon was hurt while fielding. He staggered off the field and didn’t bowl or field again.

After Australia lost their ninth wicket for 264 at Lord’s on Day 4, Lyon nonetheless walked into the middle as the final man in a display of defiance.He and Mitchell Starc contributed a significant 15 runs for the last wicket while batting on one leg before he was out on four.

Australia eventually won by 43 runs to lead the match 2-0.

Pat Cummins, the captain, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitch Marsh, Todd Murphy, Michael Neser, Jimmy Peirson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and David Warner are the members of the Australia squad for the third Test.

Given that Australia hasn’t named a replacement, Todd Murphy, who may make his Ashes debut at Leeds, will likely take Lyon’s position.

Earlier this year, Murphy made his international debut while on a tour of India, and he made an impression with 14 wickets in four Test matches.

Lyon believes Murphy will succeed in England.

He has a stock ball that is enough for international cricket. The toughest area to bowl spin, India, is where we saw it, according to Lyon.

Murphy’s participation in the starting XI has all but been guaranteed by Australia coach Andrew McDonald, who acknowledged that the squad suffered a little bit without lone spinner Lyon.

“As you saw (on Sunday), at times, we had to approach things differently because we weren’t able to rely on Nathan Lyon at the other end as much as we have in the past.We enjoy having that spin option since at times it seemed a little disorganized, he added.

Matt Renshaw, Lyon’s replacement fielder, has been dropped from the team in the meantime.
