“Biggest Load of Rubbish”: Aaron Finch savagely dismantles critics of Virat Kohli

People all over the world are talking about Virat Kohli’s sardonic remark, “I guess I still have it,” directed at his critics after his game-winning performance in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s triumph against Punjab Kings. Following his absence from the India vs. England series, Kohli made a comeback to the field in the IPL. Since the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is coming up soon after the IPL, there have been rumors that Kohli should be included in the Indian team for the biennial competition. Kohli, however, responded appropriately to his critics with a 49-ball 77 and continued to remind everyone in the post-match talk that he still has it.

“I am aware that my name is now associated with just promoting T20 cricket throughout the globe. I suppose I still have it, Kohli had said.

Speaking on the same topic, Aaron Finch of ESPN’s Around the Wicket program chastised Kohli’s detractors, claiming that even the discussion about him being unfit for India’s T20 World Cup team is absurd.

“I don’t understand why everyone constantly brings up Virat Kohli whenever an ICC tournament in any format is approaching. Is he facing competition for his position? The captain of the ICC T20 World Cup-winning team said, “That is the biggest load of rubbish I’ve ever heard in my life. He is the greatest player that I’ve ever seen in white ball cricket.” It doesn’t matter if other men strike at 160 while he strikes at 140. If I had to choose a team, I would choose a player who consistently performs well on game day and, as Ferg [Callum Ferguson] said, wins huge games. It’s absurd that we are still having this discussion.

Ferguson, a former Australian international, agreed with Finch, stating that because of his capacity to oversee huge games in major competitions, Kohli is India’s most valuable player.

“It almost seems like he’s one of their most important players based on the way he’s handled big games in big tournaments over the last two or three years.” He’s on that side for me, then. Put him in a cage. Speaking about how he’s recovered over the last few games, Darren Lehman used to often comment that you perform best when you’re young, especially in the latter stages of your career. That undoubtedly worked for Virat this time, and maybe he can use it as a springboard for the World Cup.

Ferguson noted that Kohli plays according to the circumstances of the game and that it might be a little distorted to use his low strike rates as evidence in the argument over his strike rate.

“I believe that sometimes such strike percentages might be distorted because he will play to win the game and ensure that there is no danger associated in advancing, especially with the tail. He will see to it that way. The former middle-order hitter said, “And sometimes his strike rate may be sacrificed a little bit, but he gets the wins for his team.”
