Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the Basel Swiss Indoor Championships due to an injury

Carlos Alcaraz, the world’s second-ranked athlete, has pulled out of this month’s Swiss Indoors championships in Basel owing to an injury, organizers said on Wednesday.

The fact that Alcaraz withdrew hurts his chances of overtaking Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings, since the top-ranked Serbian is set to play in the Paris Masters starting on October 30.

Alcaraz’s start in the Swiss Indoors (October 21-29) had to be cancelled because to an injury, according to the event’s organizers.

The world number two is reportedly dealing with issues with his gluteal muscles and an inflammation on the sole of his left foot, according to his doctor’s bulletin.

Alcaraz, a 20-year-old two-time Grand Slam winner, lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the Shanghai Masters round of 16 earlier this month.
