England defeats New Zealand in a series behind a century from Dawid Malan

In the fourth one-day international on Friday, England defeated New Zealand by 100 runs to take a 3-1 series lead thanks to opening batsman Dawid Malan’s outstanding century and Moeen Ali’s four wickets.

After Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bat at Lord’s, Malan scored a 114-ball 127 with 14 fours and three sixes to set the stage for a solid 311/9 in 50 overs.

New Zealand, who needed to win to win the ODI series, got off to a bad start when they lost opener Devon Conway quickly after Buttler’s superb run out.

Henry Nicholls (41) gave the visitors some hope, but Moeen’s sharp bowling put an end to the danger while also denying a hat-trick on his way to 4-50 in stats.

All-rounder Rachin Ravindra started the scoring for New Zealand and fought courageously to the finish, reaching 61 runs off of 48 balls, but Sam Curran’s brilliant yorker put an end to his fight.

Tim Southee’s broken thumb on the field caused New Zealand to be one batter short as their innings ended with 211 in the 39th over.

“It’s crucial for men to stand up when you’re dealing with such difficulties (injuries). Southee is feeling fine. He will undergo further testing to determine his condition. Tom Latham, the captain of New Zealand, remarked, “Fingers crossed.

Malan earlier served as the foundation of England’s innings and was a member of three important partnerships.

Before leaving on 127, he scored 79 runs with Joe Root (29), 56 runs with Jos Buttler (36), and 48 runs with Liam Livingstone (28), nicking a Ravindra delivery into Latham’s hands.

Good run, particularly scoring some runs here in the World Cup’s home of cricket. It was a little sluggish, and when they applied pressure, it was difficult for me to score,” said Malan.

“But we developed alliances and reached 300, which was our goal… You have to be either a freak or consistently good if you want to join this squad, and that’s what I’ve attempted to achieve by recording match-winning performances.

“We got better and better,” Captain Buttler remarked of the series. We played cricket the way we wanted to and stayed committed to that. We had to start out strong with the ball, and we did so.

Butler said that his squad was well-positioned for the World Cup.

“We’re well-positioned to go there and win. It’s a fun moment right now.

The best bowler for New Zealand was Ravindra, who helped to contain the damage by taking the wickets of Malan, Root, Harry Brook, and Moeen.

The win will help England as they prepare to defend their World Cup crown. The next game for Buttler’s team is against Ireland, while New Zealand plays Bangladesh.

The sides will then play one another on October 5 in India’s 50-over World Cup opener.
