In the third Test against England, Rohit Sharma surpasses Sourav Ganguly’s notable record

The third Test of the five-match series between India and England is now underway in Rajkot’s Niranjan Shah Stadium. The hosts chose to bat first and were quickly humiliated, losing three wickets for just 33 runs. However, captain Rohit Sharma and bowler Ravindra Jadeja forged an important alliance, with both players reaching their respective half-centuries.

The India skipper surpassed previous captain and renowned cricketer Sourav Ganguly in the record book of most runs scored in international cricket during his knock, having crossed the 65-run threshold. The latter played 424 matches in various formats and collected 18575 runs throughout his remarkable career. In his 470th international encounter, Rohit Sharma overtook him in this regard and moved up to fourth place among Indians with the most runs scored in international cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the overall record and has amassed 34357 runs in his more than two-decade career, is the highest in this regard. Despite missing the five-match Test series against England, Virat Kohli has amassed 26733 runs at an average of 54.11 across 522 forms, with 80 hundreds. Tendulkar topped the chart in this category as well, having scored 100 tons in his playing career.

In terms of the Indians scoring the most runs at the international level, current head coach Rahul Dravid ranks third with 24208 runs at an average of 45.41 in an incredible 509 games. Returning to Rohit Sharma, he has an opportunity to surpass Joe Root, who is also a part of the current series and has amassed 18883 international runs.
