IPL 2024: Following a match-winning performance against DC, RR’s Riyan Parag says, “My Opinion of Myself Doesn’t Change Irrespective of Result.”

Thanks to an undefeated 82-run innings from Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals defeated the Delhi Capitals by 12 runs at home in Jaipur on Thursday, securing their second straight victory in the 2024 IPL.

After Parag’s outstanding performance propelled RR to 186/5 in 20 overs, the bowling unit remained firm to restrict DC to 193/5 in 20 overs, thanks to wickets taken by Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal.

After his innings, at the half-time speech, Parag, overcome with emotion, said that his assessment of himself remains the same regardless of his performance on the field on any given day.

“The feelings have been resolved,” he said.

He also said that his mother was there and was fully aware of his difficulties during the last two seasons.

The 22-year-old said, “My mom is here; she has witnessed the struggle over the last three to four years.”

“I am aware of my thoughts about myself. Whether I get a zero or not makes no difference,” the right-hander said.

The year’s most promising player, Parag, said that it’s easier to settle into a high-profile competition like the IPL after a strong domestic season. However, he said, a lot of work remained.

“It has a lot to do with the kind of season as well; that helps,” he said, citing his excellent domestic season.

In the same way that captain Sanju Samson did against LSG in their first match, he disclosed that someone in the top order needed to stay at the crease for the whole of the innings.

“The wicket was staying low and stopping; Sanju Bhaiyya did it in the first game. Someone in the top four has to play the 20 overs,” Parag said.

In closing, Parag said that he had been ill for a few days but was happy to be able to support his team on gameday.

“I put in a lot of work. The child said, “I was in bed for the last three days and took painkillers. I just woke up today and I’m very happy.”
