Ireland wins a spot in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup

After their qualifying round match against Germany was postponed, Ireland secured a spot in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, which will be contested in the West Indies and the United States of America.

With a game against a qualifying Scotland remaining to be played on Friday, Ireland thereby locked up the second slot. In the European qualifications, the top two teams advance to the next round.

The Irish have won four of their five games so far, with today’s draw being the lone tie. If they defeat the Scots tomorrow, they still have a chance to win the table.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling commented on the qualifying, saying that although his team would enjoy the accomplishment, it is keen to complete the qualifications on top.

“We are happy to have accomplished our main goal of qualifying for the 2019 T20 World Cup. We had a clear game plan and approach we intended to use in Scotland, and I believe we succeeded in that regard, the captain stated.

“So we’ll celebrate the job well done this afternoon, but there’s a trophy on the line tomorrow, and we are keen to continue that winning momentum going into the India T20 series next month,” Stirling said.
