India keeps marching ahead of Bangladesh

In the rain-shortened fourth women’s Twenty20 International, India maintained their winning streak against Bangladesh, winning by 56 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis system (DLS) today.

India is now up 4-0 in the five-match series.

The competition had to be curtailed owing to a delayed start and an additional hour-long delay caused by heavy rain and hail.

Rain shortened the match to 14 overs a side, but Harmanpreet Kaur (38 runs) and Richa Ghosh (24), together for 44 runs, helped India score 122/6 against Bangladesh.

To win the series for the first time, the hosts had to chase 125 in 14 overs using the DLS system.

However, since they were losing wickets at regular intervals, the batters—aside from opener Dilara Akter (21), Rubya Haider (13), and Shorifa Khatun (11 not out)—failed to reach double figures.

Asha Sobhana, a 33-year-old leg spinner, made his debut for India and returned with figures of 2/18 in three overs.

As India limited Bangladesh to 68/7, senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma (2/13) claimed two wickets, while pacer Pooja Vastrakar (1/15) and opener Radha Yadav (1/12) each claimed one batter.

Earlier, in her 300th international match, Kaur forged an important alliance with the powerful Ghosh (24) to boost India’s score.

Following the rain break, the pair returned with good intentions, sharing up to eight boundaries and six in a total of 28 deliveries.
