Joe Root overtakes Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run scorer in the India-England Test series

In the first Test match of the five-match series, England’s top batsman Joe Root overtook Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run scorer in India vs. England contests on Thursday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

With 32 matches remaining against England, Root stepped on the field and in need of 10 runs to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 2,535 runs. With a boundary off Axar Patel in the twenty-first over, the thirty-three-year-old English batsman broke Tendulkar’s record, amassing 2555 in 48 games.

In addition, Root made history in the World Test Championship by becoming the first batter to score more than 4000 runs, with an incredible 4016 runs amassed in 48 Tests.

Root tried a sweep shot off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling but was caught on the short fine-leg, ending his inning with a score of 29 from 60 in the first Test match against India that is now underway.

Ben Stokes, who chose to bat after winning the toss, was the last player to be out, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for 70, as England were all out for 246.
