Riyan Parag reveals his cricketing idol: “I Don’t Look Up To Any Other Batter, It’s Always Been Virat Kohli”

Young all-rounder Riyan Parag of India and Rajasthan Royals (RR) has said that he only admires ace batter Virat Kohli because he believes the former India skipper to be personable and understanding.

In the most recent Deodhar Trophy, Parag put on a show by scoring 102 runs in just 68 balls against West Zone. Together with Kumar Kushagra, he scored 150 runs to enable his side go from 157/5 to 319/7 and win the game by 157 runs.

Riyan Parag said that he often interacts with Virat Kohli and that the former captain of India constantly provides him with technical advice.

“Virat Kohli has always been the source of inspiration. Despite the fact that our age has produced several excellent batters, I don’t have any role models. But I can simply really identify with Virat Kohli. I talk to him often, and he always has a lot to say that I find interesting and relatable. Riyan Parag told the BCCI on the sidelines of his Deodhar Trophy 2023 campaign, “I appreciate it when he says anything, I truly get it, and he helps me comprehend it as well.

The young star player has been in superb form throughout the current Deodhar Trophy in Puducherry, and his squad will face the South Zone in the finals thanks to his efficient efforts with the bat and the ball.

The 21-year-old’s outstanding average of 86.33 and strike rate of 133.50 have led to 259 runs in only four games thus far. His extraordinary brilliance includes the two centuries he had already broken in the competition.

In addition to mentioning his recent bat success, Parag said that his better shot selection has increased consistency in his game.

“There are many individuals and things that attempt to undermine that confidence. But I believe working harder off of the field and having confidence in yourself. I believe that’s the reason why the outcomes are happening on the field.

“I believe I have encountered a lot of immaturity. Because I like hitting six of the spinners, I believe that two years ago I would have made some ridiculous spinner shot. I would have made an effort to force an escape. But today, I feel much more mature,” he said.
