The cheeky comment made by MS Dhoni, “Well, there’s a new captain,” Takes Off

This IPL season, Ruturaj Gaikwad is heading the Chennai Super Kings, but it’s certain that the veteran captain needs MS Dhoni’s presence on the field while he adjusts to his new position. Heck, the notion that Dhoni is no longer in charge on the field is still rather foreign to the camera crew. Therefore, the cameras instinctively go to Dhoni for his response anytime there is a breakdown in field play, someone loses a catch, or a bowler bowls a poor ball. However, the great man, ever stoic, seldom offers them anything noteworthy.

The cameras quickly panned over to Dhoni during the CSK’s second match against the Gujarat Titans in the 2024 Indian Premier League, but as usual, his response was one of indifference. Rachin Ravindra, the team’s recent acquisition, had lost a catch of Sai Sudarshan. And on a recent broadcast that had Dhoni, Ravindra, and Ravindra Jadeja of CSK, Ravindra was questioned about that specific instance.

Did you check MS when you missed the catch? What did he tell you, and how did he respond? Before Ravindra could up his microphone to respond to the anchor’s question on the New Zealand all-rounder, Dhoni made a playful comment, “Well, there’s a new captain.”

Naturally, Dhoni was making reference to Gaikwad’s release from the responsibility of confronting his teammates for their errors. The veteran acknowledged that players still often glance at him, mostly due to muscle memory, but he also said that Gaikwad is a cool-headed guy who seldom gets upset over little mistakes.

“Muscle memory is present. However, I don’t tend to respond much, particularly when someone is just starting out or is in his second game. Rutu (Ruturaj), in my opinion, is quite similar. However, Dhoni said, “It was entertaining to see him (Ravindra) go all over the field.
